I decided to try a new blog template the other day, just to make the colours a little different. Did anyone notice ?
I tried a number of different colour combinations, until I elected the ones you see before you. When I'd finished, I realised that the process had kindly removed the bespoke bits of the blog that I'd painstakingly put in. Either that,or they'd been moved to a totally different place.
Some of it wasn't hard to put back....
This is Haydon, resplendent in his Wimbledon kit. When he isn't attending photo-shoots on the mantlepiece, Haydon spents his time in bed, keeping my teddy bear under control. The real life, man-sized (Womble-sized ?) Haydon is Wimbledon's mascot, and spends Saturday afternoons banging on wheelie bins to get the crowd going. Anyway my Haydon had disappeared from the blog entirely, so needed recovering.
Orinoco, on the other hand (you can tell it's him, because he's eating, and Orinoco only ever eats or sleeps) had been banished to the very bottom of the blog, where he most certainly doesn't belong. It took me a while to put him back in his rightful place, near the top left.
The other bits, which had been removed from the sidebar, were a little harder, not least of all because I'd lifted them from other parts of the 'Net and they needed finding again, and even then it was no picnic....
Despite the fact that I work in IT, I'm not remotely technical (not any more, anyway). Some time ago, and with considerably difficulty, I managed to insert some HTML into my template to get the cross St George's flag...
and the Witanagemot Club link...
I remember it not working when I first tried it, and that I had to mess about with the script to get it to appear. Needless to say I couldn't remember what I'd done, and even more needless to say I'd not taken a copy of it (no one in IT ever bothers taking a copy of anything). In the end I worked out exactly where I needed to insert the magic "/", and now I'm on a roll. Hey presto, Gordon is back.....
The only thing I can't find a copy of is a "poster"-type effort I had at the very bottom, which featured pictures of both an English mug and a Scottish one, and which gave the difference in public expenditure per head between the two nations. I'd titled it "One match the Scots always win". It was out of date anyway, and I'd seen a newer version somewhere, with more up-to-date figures. I've looked and looked, but haven't landed it yet. Does anyone know where I can find it ?
All this effort for a blog that looks pretty much like it did to start with ! Suffice to say I won't be messing about with my template again in a hurry...

I thought you would have learned from bitter experience that if you are going to dick about with anything computer related, you have to take a backup. It's not as if it is hard with blogger...
