One Proud Dad

Womble on Tour & family went to watch Huddersfield Town yesterday. We saw two teams playing with pride, passion and commitment. The other two were distinctly ordinary. The other two ? Let me explain.

During half time of a desperately dull encouter between Huddersfield and Swansea - won 1-0 by the latter - we were treated to a six-a-side game between two school teams. For these 11 year-olds it was obviously a wonderful opportunity, to play at a real stadium in front of thousands of people. What made it special for us was that Womble On Tour Junior II was playing. Featuring a number of lads who have played together for a number of years for their very successful village side, South Crosland Junior School had made it through to the final of a Kirklees inter-school tournament against Headlands Junior School.

Shored up by an outstanding defensive display from Womble On Tour Junior II, South Crosland (in the red and black stripes) won the game 2-0. All the lads, from both sides, seemed to enjoy the occasion, and South Crosland now go on to represent the area in a regional final at Port Vale (in Stoke) in May.

Proud ? You bet I was. These are some pictures from a day to remember, including one (above) of Womble On Tour Junior II playing the ball out of defence with Bobby Moore-style precision.
