It's not often that the Criminal Justice System comes through for a victim but it did so in Lancashire today.
Tony Singh, a shopkeeper in Skelmersdale, has been told that he won't face prosecution after defending himself from a robber who, during the struggle between them, got stabbed to death with his own knife.
Needless to say the robber concerned was already wanted by Police and had a string of convictions to his name.
Mr Singh, who was stabbed several times himself during the attack, has said that he was scared for his life and acted in self-defence. In speaking of his relief that he CPS are not taking the case any further, he also had the decency to express his feelings of sympathy for the robber's family.
I heard one comment on the radio this evening that far from being taken to court Mr Singh should be awarded with a public service medal. And whoever it was who expressed tat sentiment won't be alone.
